JOPLIN, Mo. – The Harding volleyball team wrapped up the Missouri Southern Invitational on a good note Saturday defeating Southeastern Oklahoma, 3-2 and host team Missouri Southern, 3-2. The Lady Bisons improved to 3-1 on the season.
Senior outside hitter Manuela Nesheva led the Lady Bisons in the two matches with 37 kills and 23 digs. Nesheva has captured a double-double in all four matches this season.
Harding started the day defeating Southeastern Oklahoma, 3-2. The Lady Bisons took set one, 25-21 but the Savage Storm battled back to take the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-23. Harding wouldn't allow Southeastern to take the match, winning the next two sets 25-11 and 25-13.
Nesheva and senior outside hitter Sarah Phipps each had a double-double in the match. Nesheva had 19 kills and 10 digs and Phipps had 11 kills and 10 digs. Junior defensive specialist Emily Tate led the Harding defense with a season high 26 digs.
In the second match against Missouri Southern, the Lions took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-12. The Lady Bisons rallied back and took the next three sets for the win, 25-15, 27-25 and 16-14. Harding has only came back from two sets down eight times since joining the NCAA in 2000.
Nesheva led the Lady Bisons in the match with 18 kills and 13 digs. Harding had three players in double figure digs. Leading the way was Tate who had 18 digs.
Harding had a season high 10 blocks in the match.
The Lady Bisons are back in action Tuesday, traveling to Rolla, Mo., to face Missouri S&T at 7 p.m.
