Volleyball Finishes Sweep at UAH Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Harding volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight games Saturday at the Alabama-Huntsville Invitational defeating West Georgia 3-0 and Montevallo 3-0. The Lady Bisons have not gone into extra sets in their last six straight matches. Harding moves to 12-2 on the season.

In the first match of the day against Gulf South Conference East Division foe West Georgia, Harding took the first set with ease, 25-14. The Lady Bisons started the second set on a 6-0 run and West Georgia didn't get any closer than two points as Harding took the second set, 25-19. Harding had a rough start in set three falling behind 11-6 but a 6-0 run put the Lady Bisons back on top and rolled to a 25-21 win.

Senior outside hitters Manuela Nesheva and Sarah Phipps led Harding with 11 kills. Junior Emily Tate led the Lady Bisons defense with 11 digs.

Harding held West Georgia to hitting only .093 percentage and 23 attack errors. The Lady Bisons tied a season high 10 blocks in the match.

The Lady Bisons started the match against Montevallo with four straight points. The Falcons battled back and took the lead on six unanswered points. The Lady Bisons took the next nine out of ten points to take the set, 25-19. In set two, Harding started strong going up 12-4. Montevallo tried to battle its way back into the set but Harding didn't let the Falcons get within eight. With Montevallo starters out in set three, Harding took the first nine points and didn't look back taking set three 25-17.

Nesheva had 11 kills to lead the Harding offense in the match. Tate continued to lead the Lady Bisons defense with 11 digs.

The Lady Bisons were the only team in the tournament to go undefeated.

Harding will take a week off before opening GSC play at Southern Ark. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m., in Magnolia, Ark. The Lady Bisons were scheduled to travel to Muskogee, Okla., to face Oklahoma Panhandle State and Bacone College but the matches were cancelled.
