Volleyball Opens Conference Play with Win

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team opened Gulf South Conference play Tuesday night defeating Southern Arkansas 3-0. It was the seventh straight match the Lady Bisons have swept their opponent by a score of 3-0. Harding moves to 13-2 overall and 1-0 in the GSC.

The Lady Bisons jumped out to a first set win, 25-15. In the second set, Harding was up 15-5, but SAU went on an 11-3 run to pull within 18-16 before the Lady Bisons used a 7-5 run to take set two, 25-21. In set three, Harding quickly jumped out 10-0 lead before the Lady Muleriders got on the board.  Harding held a 20-3 lead until SAU scored three straight. Harding scored five straight points to take the widest margin of victory on the season, 25-6.

The Lady Bisons offense was evenly spread throughout six players. Leading the way was senior outside hitter Manuela Nesheva who had 9 kills. Emily Tate led Harding with 17 digs in the match. Senior outside hitter Sarah Phipps had a career high 16 digs and seven kills for the Lady Bisons.

Harding held Southern Arkansas to a .027 hitting percentage on the night.

The Lady Bisons are back in action Saturday traveling to Batesville, Ark., to face Trevecca Nazarene at 1 p.m., and Lyon College at 3 p.m.
