EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Harding University sophomore
Daniel Kirwa won his second consecutive cross country race and led the Bisons to a third-place finish at the NCAA Pre-Nationals Meet hosted by Southern Indiana on Saturday.
Kirwa, a native of Burnt Forest, Kenya and one of the top runners in NCAA Division II, completed the eight-kilometer race in 24 minutes, 35.53 seconds. He was under three seconds ahead of Abilene Christian's Amos Sang (24:38.43). Harding sophomore
Philip Biwott was third in 24:54.41.
Stonehill, ranked 12th nationally, won the team event with 42 points. Ninth-ranked Southern Indiana was second with 69 points, ahead of Harding's 96 points.
Harding, which dropped from 11th in the NCAA Division II poll to 24th after its seventh-place finish at Missouri Southern last week, was eager to prove that its last race was an aberration.
The Bisons finished ahead of fifth-ranked Abilene Christian, which placed fourth with 106 points.
Harding's other scoring runners included junior
Wojciech Kopec (29th, 27:18.42), freshman
Justin Kutter (33rd, 27:22.19) and sophomore
Reese Jackson (35th, 27:31.03).
The Bisons will return to action on Oct. 10 when they host the Bison Stampede in Searcy.
