Volleyball Continues Winning Streak with Win over Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team moved their winning streak to 11 games Saturday after defeating Lyon College, 3-1. The Lady Bisons improve to 13-2-1 on the season.

Harding jumped out to a quick 17-3 lead in the first set.  Sophomore Amber Parker had a career high four service aces in the HU run.  The Lady Bisons went on an 8-6 run to take set one, 25-9. In the second set, Harding jumped out to a 3-1 lead. The Lady Pipers went on a 6-3 run to tie the set 10-10. Lyon took their first lead on a 5-1 run to go up 14-11. Harding battled back to tie the set 16-16 but Lyon had an answer for every HU point and took the set 25-23. It was the first set the Lady Bisons have given up in seven matches.

Harding jumped out to take a 15-3 advantage in set three. Lyon tried to start a run but Harding put a stop to it and went on an 8-2 run to take set three 25-9. In set three, Harding again jumped out to take a quick 12-6 lead. Lyon came within four of Harding and didn't come any closer as the Lady Bisons went on to take set three 25-15.

Junior middle blocker Samantha Anderson led Harding in the match with a career high 17 kills. Anderson went 17 of 31 with four errors for a .419 hitting percentage. Manuela Nesheva and Sarah Phipps each had 10 kills for Harding. Emily Tate and Amber Parker led the Harding defense, both picking up double figure digs. Tate led the way with 17 digs and Parker had 10 digs.

The Lady Pipers were lead by Lauren Castleberry who had 10 kills. Jennifer Jones had 12 digs and Catherine Carter had 10 digs to lead the Lyon's defense.

The Lady Bisons had 52 kills in the match for a .259 hittinge percentage. Harding had 11 services in the match.

Harding hosts Arkansas Tech on Tuesday night in Gulf South Conference action at 7 p.m., in the Rhodes Field House.
