Digging Match: Volleyball Fights Back to Defeat SAU 3-2

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team had a season-high 120 digs as they went on to beat Southern Arkansas 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-9) on Thursday night in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Bisons improve to 11-8 overall and 6-1 in the GSC West Division. With the win, Harding stays in the top spot in the GSC West Division with Christian Brothers.

Harding's digs tied for fourth all-time in Lady Bison volleyball history. It was also the second time in the series history Harding has had that many digs against Southern Arkansas. It was the most digs by a Harding team since Oct. 19, 2004 against Southern Arkansas.

The Lady Bisons were led in digs by senior defensive specialist Emily Tate who had 30. It was the third straight match she has had 30 or more digs. Tate is only the third player in Harding history to have three or more 30-plus dig matches.

Four Harding players ended with a career high in digs. Junior defensive specialist Amber Parker tied her career-high with 21 digs. Freshman outside hitter Mollie Arnold had a career-high 20 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Willaims captured 17 digs for a career high and sophomore setter Amber Schinzing ended with a career-high 15 digs.

Arnold led the Harding offense on the night with 19 kills. Senior middle blocker Samantha Anderson and sophomore outside hitter Bailee Graham each ended with 11 kills. As a team, the Lady Bisons had 60 kills on 213 attempts with 17 errors for a .202 hitting percentage.

Southern Arkansas (11-9, 2-5 in the GSC West Division) had four players that had over 20 digs in the match. Kahlie Remy had 31 of the 129 Lady Mulerider digs. Becca Pate led the SAU offense with 22 kills and also had 20 digs.

It was Harding's 13th straight win over the Southern Arkansas.

Harding will take a break from conference action next Tuesday as the Lady Bisons host Lyon at 7 p.m., in the Rhodes Field House.
