Great Hitting Leads HU Volleyball Past Alabama-Huntsville 3-1

SEARCY – Great hitting allowed the Harding volleyball team to defeat Alabama-Huntsville 3-1 on Friday night in non-conference action. The Lady Bisons improve to 13-9 on the season.

Harding had 53 kills on 128 attempts with a season-low five errors for a .375 hitting percentage. It was the fourth time this season the Lady Bisons had hit over .300. Since 1999, Harding is 84-1 when hitting over .300.

Freshman outside hitter Mollie Arnold picked up her tenth career double-double in the match with 16 kills and 15 digs. Senior middle Blocker Samantha Anderson and freshman outside hitter Lisa Copeland each had 10 kills for the Lady Bisons.

Sophomore setter Amber Schinzing controlled the Harding offense in the match and ended with 43 assists for the Lady Bisons. It was the seventh time this season Schinzing has had over 40 assists in a match.

Senior defensive specialist Emily Tate, reigning Gulf South Conference defender of the week, led the Harding defense with 25 digs. It was the ninth time this season and the 26th time in her career that she has had over 20 digs in a match. Sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Willaims added 10 digs to the Harding total of 68.

Harding held Alabama-Huntsville (9-18) to 45 kills on 147 attempts with 25 errors for a .136 hitting percentage. It was the fourth time this season the Lady Bisons have forced over 25 errors in a match.

Senior middle blocker Allison Cousins was the only Lady Charger in double-figure kills with 13. Freshman outside hitter Stacey Sargent led the UAH defense with 17 digs. Junior defensive Specialist Kaelie McCaghren wasn't far behind her with 16 digs.

Serving woes plagued both teams in the match; Alabama-Huntsville had 11 service errors while Harding had nine.

The Lady Bisons will play their final non-conference match on Saturday as the host North Alabama at 11 a.m., in the Rhodes Field House.
