SEARCY – Freshman outside hitter Mollie Arnold captured a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs to lead the Harding volleyball team past Christian Brothers 3-0 Tuesday night in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Bisons move to 14-10 on the season and 7-2 in the GSC West Division.
Christian Brothers (16-11, 8-2 GSC West) falls out of first place in the GSC West Division and is tied with Harding in second place. Arkansas Tech has sole possession of first place in the division.
The Harding defense forced Christian Brothers to 19 hitting errors and seven service errors. Senior defensive specialist Emily Tate had 17 of the Lady Bisons 63 digs. Junior defensive specialist Amber Parker added 14 to the Harding total.
As a team, Harding had 45 kills on 123 attempts with 11 errors for a .276 hitting percentage. Arnold had a great hitting night, in 37 attempts she only committed one error for a team-high .432 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Amber Schinzing bagged 37 assists for the Lady Bisons.
The Lady Bucs were led by outside hitter Kaitlin Keathley who had 12 kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Corinne Doder led the Christian Brothers defense with 17 digs.
Harding battled back in the third set after being down by as much as four. Christian Brothers kept the lead until Arnold had back-to-back kills to put Harding on top 23-22. A kill by senior middle blocker Samantha Anderson set up set point for Harding but two Lady Bison errors allowed the Lady Bucs to serve for set point. Anderson and fellow middle blocker Alex Smith had back-to-back kills and a CBU attack error allowed Harding to take the set and the match.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Monticello, Ark., to face Arkansas-Monticello at 7 p.m.
