SEARCY – The Harding volleyball takes the court on Friday in the Gulf South Conference Tournament hosted by West Florida in Pensacola, Fla., at 5 p.m., as they face the No. 3 seed from the East Division Valdosta State. The Lady Bisons head into the tournament as the No. 2 seed from the West Division with a 17-10 overall record.
The Lady Bisons will be making their 10th appearance in the tournament as Harding has made the tournament every season since joining the GSC in 2000. In the tournament, the Lady Bisons are 12-9 and are 1-0 against Valdosta State.
Harding is led by GSC Freshman of the Year Mollie Arnold who averages 4.12 kills per set which ranks her second in the GSC. Arnold also averages 3.00 digs per set and leads the Lady Bisons in service aces with 33. The Harding defense is led by senior defensive specialist Emily Tate who averages 5.33 digs per set, ranking her third in the GSC. The Lady Bisons offense is controlled by sophomore setter Amber Schinzing who averages 9.89 assists per set, ranking her fourth in the GSC.
Valdosta State (21-10) is led by Irene Hannan who averages 3.19 kills per set. The Blazers have three players that average over three digs per set, leading the way is Ruthie King who averages 3.89 digs per set. Chelsea Luttfring isn't far behind her averaging 3.85 digs per set and Hannan averages 3.50 digs per set.
Valdosta State ranks second in the GSC in blocks, averaging 1.91 a set.
Harding leads the series against Valdosta State, 4-0.
