SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team defeated Ouachita Baptist 3-0 on Thursday night in the final regular season Gulf South Conference match. The Lady Bisons improved to 17-10 on the season and 10-2 in the GSC West Division.
The Lady Bisons will be the No. 2 seed in the GSC tournament Nov. 12-13. Harding will play the No. 3 seed in the GSC East Division in the opening round of the tournament. The GSC East Division teams will wrapped up the regular season this weekend.
Harding had a great hitting night, with 48 kills on 107 attempts with 10 errors for a .355 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Bailee Graham had 12 kills on 15 attempts with two errors for a team-high .667 hitting percentage. It was the highest hitting percentage by a Lady Bison all season. Senior middle blocker Samantha Anderson wasn't far behind her with eight kills on 15 attempts with one error for a .467 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Amber Schinzing controlled the Lady Bisons offense on the night and ended with 39 assists and nine digs. Freshman outside hitter Mollie Arnold led the Harding with 14 kills. The Lady Bisons defense was led by senior defensive specialist Emily Tate who had 17 digs.
The Harding defense held Ouachita Baptist to 23 kills on 109 attempts with 19 errors for a .037 hitting percentage. Libby Merritt led the Lady Tigers with seven kills. Allison Frizzell had 16 digs for Ouachita Baptist.
After the match, the Lady Bisons honored Emily Tate and Samantha Anderson for their contribution to the Harding volleyball program.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action Nov. 12 when they take part in the GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.
