SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team heads to Russellville, Ark., on Tuesday to face Arkansas Tech at 7 p.m., in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Bisons look for their second consecutive GSC victory as they head into the match with a 1-0 conference record.
The Lady Bisons and the Golden Suns have battled for the top spot in the GSC West Division the last three years. Arkansas Tech leads the series 15-14. Harding won both meetings the last season. Their last loss to the Golden Suns came in 2008 in Searcy.
Harding (6-7) is led by freshman outside hitter Mollie Arnold who averages 3.82 kills per set, ranking her third in the GSC. She also averages 2.84 digs per set. Sophomore outside hitter Reagan Smith isn't far behind averaging 3.02 kills per set, ranking her seventh in the GSC.
Senior defensive specialist Emily Tate leads the Harding defense averaging 4.30 digs per set, ranking her sixth in the GSC. Junior middle blocker Alex Smith leads the Lady Bisons at the net with 25 blocks.
Arkansas Tech (14-3, 2-0 GSC West Division) heads into the match with a nine game winning streak. The Golden Suns are led by Sarah Von Lienen who averages 3.38 kills per set and Laura Farney who averages 3.45 kills per set, ranking them fourth and five in the GSC. Brennae Benda leads the Tech defense, averaging 4.08 digs per set.
