SEARCY – Freshman outside hitter
Kalyn Helton had 12 kills and a .512 hitting percentage to lead the Harding volleyball team past Arkansas-Monticello 3-0 in Great American Conference action on Tuesday. The Lady Bisons wore pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness month.
For the first time in her career, Helton finished with 10 or more kills and no errors. It was also the second straight match a HU player has hit for over .500 and finished with no errors. Sophomore outside hitter Mollie Arnold accomplished the feat last Saturday against East Central.
The Harding (19-6, 10-2 GAC) defense forced 23 hitting errors. Sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Williams led the defense with 12 digs. Junior right-side hitter Bailee Graham and senior middle blocker Alex Smith led HU at the net. Graham had five blocks and Smith finished with four.
Arkansas-Monticello (3-19, 1-9 GAC) was led by Christina Rini, Bailie Jedlicka and Amy Kleypas who each had six kills. Allison Beardsley led the defense with a match-high 16 digs.
All this week, the Harding fall sports teams will be wearing pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Both black and pink t-shirts will be on sale at the games for $10.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Magnolia, Ark., to face Southern Arkansas at 7 p.m.
