Volleyball Hosts Arkansas Tech in Key GAC Matchup

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team continues Great American Conference action at home on Thursday as they host Arkansas Tech at 7 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons head into the match with a 20-6 overall record and an 11-2 GAC record.

The Golden Suns (29-3, 13-0 GAC) are currently first in the GAC standings followed by Harding.  Arkansas Tech defeated HU in a close 3-2 showdown in Russellville, Ark., earlier this season. Arkansas Tech leads the series between the two teams 39-32.

The Lady Bisons are led by sophomore outside hitter Mollie Arnold who averages 3.90 kills (third in the GAC) and 3.53 digs per set (ninth in the GAC). Sophomore middle blocker Alyssa Short leads Harding in hitting with a .291 hitting percentage (fifth in the GAC).

The Lady Bisons defense is led by sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Williams who averages 4.43 digs per set (sixth in the GAC).

Freshman setter Taryn Eubank, reigning GAC Setter of the Week, controls the HU offense averaging 6.99 assists per set.

Arkansas Tech leads the GAC in six of the seven stat categories – hitting percentage (.249), opponent hitting percentage (.119), assists (12.26), kills (13.43), blocks (2.14) and service aces (2.04). Harding is right behind the Golden Suns in four categories – hitting percentage (.214), opponent hitting percentage (.143), assists (12.08) and kills (13.12). Harding leads the GAC in digs per set with a 17.86 average.

Arkansas Tech is led by Laura Farney who averages 3.55 kills and 3.06 digs per set. Sara Motsinger is close behind with a 3.05 kill average.

The Golden Suns defense is led by Brennae Benda who averages 4.39 digs per set. Brittany Ryan leads ATU at the net averaging 1.18 blocks per set (first in the GAC).
