RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The 23rd ranked Harding volleyball team fell 3-2 at Arkansas Tech on Tuesday in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons fall to 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in the GAC.
The Golden Suns (15-1, 6-0 GAC) took advantage of seven Lady Bison errors in the fifth set to take the match and to take the top spot in the GAC standings.
Harding gave up a season-high 61 kills in the match. Arkansas Tech had three players that ended in double-figures. Sara Motsinger led the Golden Suns with 19. Thabata Galvao had 11 and Brittany Ryan had 10.
Arkansas Tech had 99 digs in the match, the most against the Lady Bisons this season. The Golden Suns had five players finish in double-figures, including two players that had 20 or more digs. Brennae Benda had 28 and Laura Farney had 26. The Arkansas Tech defense also had 16 team blocks.
Harding had 42 kills, 32 errors on 189 attempts for a .053 hitting percentage. It was the first time this season the Lady Bisons have hit below .100.
Sophomore outside hitter Mollie Arnold led Harding with 12 kills and 21 digs for her sixth consecutive double-double in conference action.
The Lady Bisons had 83 digs in the match. Besides Arnold's digs, four other Harding players finished in double-figures. Senior defensive Specialist Amber Parker tied a season high with 18. Freshman setter Taryn Eubank and sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Williams both had 13. Sophomore outside hitter Lisa Copeland finished with 10. Sophomore middle blocker Alyssa Short, reigning GAC Defensive Player of the Week, had five blocks in the match, including two solo blocks.
Harding will be back in action next Tuesday as they host Arkansas-Fort Smith at 7 p.m., in non-conference action at the Rhodes Field House.
