JOPLIN, Mo. – The Harding volleyball team completed a tournament sweep on Saturday as they defeated host team Missouri Southern State and Quincy by a 3-0 score. The Lady Bisons open the season 4-0 for the third time since joining the NCAA in 2000.
In the first match, Harding had two players end in double-figure kills. Sophomore outside hitter Mollie Arnold had a match-high 13 kills and freshman outside hitter Kalyn Helton had a career-high 11 kills.
The Harding defense forced the Lions t0 22 hitting errors for a .091 hitting percentage. The Lady Bisons had 44 digs in the contest. Sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Williams had a match-high 15 digs and Arnold captured her second double-double of the season with 10 digs.
Harding hit for .290 in the game and was led by sophomore Alyssa Short who had nine kills, two errors on 17 attempts for a .412 percentage.
The Lady Bisons continued their dominance in the second match as Arnold led with 11 kills.
Short continued her spectacular hitting in the match with eight kills, one error on 16 attempts for a .438 hitting percentage. She also had a career-high eight blocks.
The Harding defense was led by senior defensive specialist Amber Parker who had 11 digs.
Harding will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Christian Brothers at 7 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House.
