SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches on Tuesday as the Lady Bisons defeated Christian Brothers 3-0 in the home opener at the Rhodes Field House. The last time Harding started the season 5-0 was in 2003.
Harding had 42 kills and 10 errors for an outstanding .352 team hitting percentage. The Lady Bisons were led by sophomore outside hitter Mollie Arnold who captured her third double-double on the season with 16 kills and 10 digs.
The Harding defense forced 18 hitting errors and had a season-high nine blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Williams led the Lady Bisons with 14 digs, and senior middle blocker Alex Smith and sophomore middle blocker Alyssa Short each had four blocks.
Christian Brothers (4-1) was led by junior Lizzie McLean, senior Kelly Nolan and freshman Hannah Kurtz who each had six kills. The Lady Bucs were led on defense by junior Corinne Doder who had 14 digs.
Harding travels to Alabama this weekend as they take on Nova Southeastern on Thursday at 7 p.m., in Florence, Ala., and then travel to Huntsville, Ala., on Friday to participate in the Alabama-Huntsville Tournament. The Lady Bisons will play West Georgia at 11 a.m., and Alabama-Huntsville at 3 p.m., on Friday and then on Saturday they take on Cedarville at 9 a.m., and District of Columbia at 1 p.m.
