Bama Bound: Volleyball to Play Five Matches this Weekend

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball heads to Alabama this weekend as they take on Nova Southeastern on Thursday at 7 p.m., in Florence, Ala., and then travel to Huntsville, Ala., on Friday to participate in the Alabama-Huntsville Tournament. The Lady Bisons will play West Georgia at 11 a.m., and Alabama-Huntsville at 3 p.m., on Friday and then on Saturday they take on Cedarville at 9 a.m., and District of Columbia at 1 p.m.

The Lady Bisons head into the weekend with a 5-0 record after sweeping every opponent 3-0. As a team, Harding is averaging 12.5 kills per set, 15.9 digs per set and 1.9 blocks a set.

The Lady Bisons are led by sophomore outside hitter Mollie Arnold who averages four kills and 2.87 digs per set. Sophomore middle blocker Alyssa Short leads the team with a .433 hitting percentage.

The Harding defense is led by sophomore defensive specialist Weslynn Williams who averages 4.40 digs per set. Short also leads the Lady Bisons at the net with 15 blocks.

On Thursday, Harding will be looking for their first win over Nova Southeastern. The Sharks have a 2-0 series lead over the Lady Bisons. NSU, a NCAA Division II member of the Sunshine State Conference, heads into the match with a 0-4 record. The Sharks are led by Danielle Graham who averages 2.87 kills per set. She also leads the team at the net with 15 blocks.

On Friday, the Lady Bisons take on two familiar foes.

Harding meets West Georgia in the first match of the day. The Lady Bisons lead the series over the Wolves, 8-2. UWG, NCAA Division II member of the Gulf South Conference, head into the weekend with a 1-4 record. The Wolves are led by Helen Menchinger who averages 2.71 kills and 2.43 digs per set.

In the second match, Harding looks to improve on their 14-1 series record over the host team Alabama-Huntsville. UAH, NCAA Division II member of the Gulf South Conference, also heads in the weekend with a 1-4 record. The Lady Chargers are led by Jessica Ruple who averages 2.75 kills per set.

Unlike Friday, Harding will take on two unfamiliar foes. When the Lady Bisons take the court it will be the first time they have faced Cedarville and District of Columbia.

Cedarville heads into the weekend with a 2-2 record. CU received their NCAA Division II membership this season. The Lady Jackets are led by Stephanie Rogers who averages 2.83 kills per set.

District of Columbia heads into the weekend with a 3-1 record. UDC is a NCAA Division II member of the East Coast Conference. The Firebirds are led by Vanessa Garley who averages 3.36 kills per set and 2.07 digs per set.
