SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team will play their final non-conference match of the season on Thursday as they host Union at 7 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons head into the match with a 15-6 record.
It will be the fifth-straight non-conference match for Harding. The Lady Bisons participated in the Washburn Fall Classic last weekend. HU went 2-2 in the tournament. The Lady Bisons defeated Missouri Western State 3-0 and Northwest Missouri State 3-1 and fell to Truman State 1-3 and No. 4 Washburn 2-3. This season, Harding is 9-6 against non-conference opponents.
Junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold led HU averaging 4.69 kills per set and 3.38 digs per set. She also hit for a .318 hitting percentage. Senior setter Amber Schinzing averaged 10.94 assists per set in the tournament. Both Arnold and Schinzing were named Great American Conference Player of the Week for their performances last week and both were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Union is from Jackson, Tenn., and is a NCAA Division II provisional member of the Gulf South Conference. The Lions head into Thursday with a 3-12 record. Union fell to GAC member Henderson State 3-1 earlier this season. The Lions are led by sophomore outside hitter Savannah Hughes who averages 2.87 kills per set.
It will be the first meeting between the two teams.
