SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer team defeated Hendrix 5-0 on Tuesday in non-conference action at the Harding Soccer Field. Harding improved to 6-6-2 on the season.
It was the first shutout by Harding this season. HU's last shutout was the season opener last season against Texas Southern in Searcy. The Lady Bisons won 2-0.
Harding got on the board first in the fourth minute when Adair Schmidt sent a cross from the left side to Jenna Taylor who one touched the ball into the back of the net.
Taylor scored her team leading fifth goal two minutes later off a corner kick by Anne Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald got on the board in the 36th minute off a drop-back pass from Sierra Hollingsworth. Fitzgerald nailed a 25-foot shot to the upper right corner for her second goal of the season.
Hollingsworth scored her first career goal in the 40th minute. A header miscue off a Warrior defender allowed her to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Hollingsworth then hit a chip shot over the goalkeeper to put HU up 4-0 at halftime.
In the 61st minute, Lauren Lee hit a pass to Jenna Taylor who found Larkin Hatcher on the left side for an easy eight-yard shot. It was Hatcher's third goal on the season.
Harding took 38 shots, 15 on goal and had 12 corner kicks.
The Lady Bisons held the Hendrix (4-8-1) to only three shots. It was the fewest shots allowed since last season as HU held Delta State to three.
After the game, Harding honored two seniors for their contribution to the Harding women's soccer program – Lauren Scharf and Chloe Birdwell.
Harding will be back in action on Friday as they host Ouachita Baptist in Great American Conference action at 7 p.m., at the Harding Soccer Field.
