SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team made quick work of Henderson State on Tuesday as they defeated the Lady Reddies 3-0 in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons remain perfect in the GAC at 6-0 and are tied with Southern Arkansas for first in the GAC standings.
Harding jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back winning 25-11, 25-9 and 25-9. It was the eighth time this season the Lady Bisons have swept their opponent.
Harding (13-4) had three players that had three service aces in the match – Liv Savage, Mollie Arnold and Lisa Copeland. As a team, HU had 15 aces, which is tied for second-most ever in a Harding match. The Lady Bisons also had 15 aces against Freed-Hardeman in 1997 and Belhaven in 1998. The school record of 16 was set against West Alabama in 2006.
Nine Harding players had a kill and all 11 Lady Bisons had a dig. Junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold led HU with eight kills and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland had a match-high 13 digs.
Harding had a season-high .365 hitting percentage.
The Lady Reddies had 11 kills, which ties for third in Harding history for the fewest number of kills by an opponent. Harding held Ohio Valley to 11 kills in 2008. The only opponents with fewer kills in a match were Belhaven in 1998 and Philander Smith in 2000. Both teams had eight kills.
Henderson State (3-12, 0-5 GAC) was led by Jessica Moss, Ty Lindberg and Yartiza Santiago who each had three kills.
Harding will take a break from conference action this weekend as they participate in the Washburn Fall Classic. HU will face Missouri Western State and Truman State on Friday and host team Washburn and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.
