SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team travels to Russellville, Ark., on Tuesday to face Arkansas Tech in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons looks to improve on an 11-0 conference record.
Harding is in first place in the GAC standings. The regular season champion will host the conference tournament Nov. 15-17th. Arkansas Tech is second place with only one GAC loss (8-1). Harding defeated ATU 3-2 earlier this season. Junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold led HU in the match with 18 kills and 15 digs. Junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland had 22 digs. Harding also had 13 blocks in the match.
Harding has won their last eight matches.
The Lady Bisons are coming off two GAC wins last week. HU defeated Southern Arkansas 3-0 and Ouachita Baptist 3-0. Sophomore outside hitter Marindia Turner led HU last week. Turner had 12 kills against SAU and had 16 against OBU. She also hit .577 in the Ouachita Baptist match.
Harding ranks first in the GAC in two categories – opponent hitting percentage (.142) and kills (13.76). The Lady Bisons also rank second in two categories – hitting percentage (.227) and assists (12.68).
Arkansas Tech heads into the match with a 23-7 overall record. The Golden Suns are coming off two non-conference wins against Central Baptist (3-0) and Lyon (3-0). ATU has won their last six matches. Arkansas Tech leads the GAC in hitting percentage (.251) and kills (12.72). The Golden Suns are led by Carly Florian who averages 3.51 kills per set and Morgan McKellar averages 4.26 digs per set.
Arkansas Tech leads the series 41-33. Five out of the last six matches have been decided in five sets.
