RUSSELLVILL, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team defeated Arkansas Tech 3-1 in Great American Conference action on Tuesday. With the win, the Lady Bisons will be hosting the GAC Tournament Nov. 15-17.
Harding improved to 12-0 in conference play and remains in first place in the GAC standings. Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas are tied for second with a 9-2 GAC record.
It was the Lady Bisons ninth straight win.
Harding (23-6) dropped the first set 25-22 but battled back and didn't allow Arkansas Tech to take a lead in the next three sets winning 25-16, 25-19 and 25-18.
The Lady Bisons were led by junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold who captured a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Amber Schinzing also had a double-double with 46 assists and 13 digs. Junior middle blocker Alyssa Short also had 10 kills. Senior right-side hitter Bailee Graham had nine kills and hit for a match-high .529.
Sophomore defensive specialist Taryn Eubank led the HU defense with 14 digs. Junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland had 13 digs.
Arkansas Tech (23-8, 9-2 GAC) was led by Kaitlyn White who had 19 kills and 12 digs. Morgan McKellar had a match-high 19 digs. The Golden Suns leading hitting Carly Forian was sidelined with an injury after the first set.
Harding had eight blocks in the match. Sophomore middle blocker Liv Savage had a match-high six blocks.
The Lady Bisons forced the Golden Suns to 30 hitting errors. Harding had 51 kills on 132 attempts with 16 errors for a .265 hitting percentage. It was the ninth straight match the Lady Bisons have hit over .200.
Harding has two GAC matches remaining in the 2012 slate. The Lady Bisons will travel to Alva, Okla., this Saturday to face Northwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. HU will wrap up the 2012 season at home as they host Arkansas-Monticello on Senior Night on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
