SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer opens the Great American Conference Tournament against No. 18 Southwestern Oklahoma State at 3 p.m., in Weatherford, Okla., on Friday. The Lady Bisons will be the fourth seed in the tournament.
Dating back to when Harding was in the Gulf South Conference (2000-10), the Lady Bisons have made the conference tournament for the third straight year. HU was the fourth seed last year in the GAC Tournament. Harding fell to No. 1 seed East Central 6-0.
Harding (7-8-2) is led by junior forward Jenna Taylor who has six goals and three assists. Taylor was selected to the All-GAC second team earlier this week.
Southwestern Oklahoma State will be the host team and the No. 1 seed in the tournament after going 9-0-1 in the GAC this season. The Bulldogs are the first team in the GAC to go undefeated in conference play. SWOSU is the only undefeated team left in Division II with a 17-0-1 record. The Bulldogs are led by Josie Price has eight goals and ranks fourth in Div. II in assists with 12. Price was named GAC Offensive Player of the Year this week. Samantha Nunez has nine goals and three assists for SWOSU.
It will be the third time this season the two teams have met. Southwestern Oklahoma State won both contests this season - 4-0 in Searcy and 3-0 in Weatherford. The Bulldogs lead the series 5-4-0.
