SEARCY, Ark. – Junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold had 20 kills to lead the Harding volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament on Thursday. The Lady Bisons improved their winning streak to 11 matches with the win.
It was the fourth time this season Arnold has had over 20 kills in a match. She also hit a match-high .486 and had 13 digs. It was Arnold's 14th double-double this season.
Harding (26-6) took a 13-0 lead in the first set and didn't look back as they took the first set 25-4. It was the fewest points the Lady Bisons have held their opponent to since 2008. HU defeated Ohio Valley 25-3 in the third set HU won 3-0. It also set a GAC Tournament record.
SOSU took a 9-7 lead in the second set before HU went on an 8-2 run on six kills to take a 15-11 lead. Harding took the set 25-20.
The Lady Bisons jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the third set. HU only allowed six more points the rest of the way for a 25-9 set win.
Harding had a match-high 80 digs. It was the most digs HU has had in the GAC tournament. Junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland led the Lady Bisons with 20 digs. It was the fourth time this season Copeland has had 20 or more digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Taryn Eubank had 16 digs.
The Lady Bisons had nine blocks in the match. Junior middle blocker Alyssa Short led HU with five. Sophomore middle blocker Liv Savage had four.
Southeastern Oklahoma State, the eight seed in the tournament, was led by sophomore outside hitter Emily Gentle who had six kills.
Harding held the Savage Storm to hitting -.042. The Lady Bisons forced 21 hitting errors and three service errors.
Harding will play the winner between the fourth seed Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday at 6 p.m.
