Volleyball Hosts Arkansas Tech on Tuesday

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team looks for their second straight Great American Conference win Tuesday as they host Arkansas Tech at 7 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons head into the match with a five-match winning streak and an 8-3 overall record and a 1-0 GAC record.

The series between the two schools is always fierce, and four out of the five previous meetings have all gone to five sets. The Golden Suns have won the five last five matchups and led the series 41-32. Harding's last win came in Russellville, Ark., in 2009.

The Lady Bisons are led by junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold who leads the GAC in kills (3.86 kills per set). She is also second on the team in digs, averaging 2.35 digs per set. Senior setter Amber Schinzing controls the HU offense and is second in the GAC in assists averaging 10.51 a set.

The Harding defense is led by junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland who averages 4.45 digs per set, which ranks fourth in the GAC. Copeland also ranks second in the GAC in service aces (0.47 per set).

As a team, HU ranks second in the conference in hitting percentage (.205), opponent hitting percentage (.140), assists (12.11) and kills (13.42).

Arkansas Tech heads into the match with a 9-4 overall record and a 1-0 GAC record. ATU is coming off back-to-back 3-0 wins over Philander Smith on Saturday. The Golden Suns' conference win came against Arkansas-Monticello. Arkansas Tech leads the GAC in kills per set (13.67) and is led by Carly Florian and Sara Motsinger who both average over three kills a set.
