Hot Start Not Enough for HU Volleyball

FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team fell to Arkansas-Fort Smith 3-1 in non-conference action Tuesday. The loss snapped a seven match win streak by the Lady Bisons.

Harding (10-4) jumped out to take a 1-0 lead after taking the first set 25-20. Arkansas-Fort Smith then took the next three sets for the win (25-21, 25-16, 25-12).

Junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold led the HU offense with 13 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Marindia Turner also finished in double-figure kills with 11.

Three Harding players finished in double-figure digs – Mollie Arnold and junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland both had 19 and senior setter Amber Schinzing added 11. Schinzing also had 41 assists for the Lady Bisons.

Arkansas-Forth Smith (11-1) was led by Heidi Luks who had 23 kills and 14 digs. Emily McCollum had a match-high 25 digs to lead the UAFS defense.

The Lady Lions outhit the Lady Bisons in the match. UAFS finished with a .252 hitting percentage while they held HU to hitting .170. Arkansas-Fort Smith forced 20 Harding hitting errors and nine service errors.

The Lady Bisons will be back in action this weekend as they continue Great American Conference action. Harding will travel to East Central on Friday and then Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday. Both matches are at 7 p.m.
