Lady Bison Volleyball Wins at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven matches on Tuesday as they defeated Henderson State 3-0 in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons improved to 15-5 overall and 6-0 in the GAC.

Harding also extended their conference winning streak to 23 matches; dating back to the 2011 season.

The Lady Bisons completed the season sweep over Henderson State. HU defeated HSU 3-0 earlier this season in Searcy. Harding has won the last eight meetings between the two teams.

The first set stayed close until HU went on a 4-0 run to take a 20-16 lead as the Lady Bisons forced two Henderson State attack errors. The Lady Reddies tried to mount a comeback with a 3-0 run to pull within two, 20-18. Harding closed the set on a 5-0 run as a kill by senior outside hitter Mollie Arnold sealed the set.

Henderson State kept the second set close as they stayed within one of the Lady Bisons until HU took advantage of three HSU attack errors to take a 14-10 lead. The Lady Reddies battled back and tied the set at 17 but HU took the lead again on two kills and an attack error. Back-to-back kills by HSU allowed the Lady Reddies to pull within one, 21-20. Harding didn't allow HSU to score another point as they went on a 5-0 run on three kills and a service ace by junior outside hitter Marindia Turner.

Harding put the third set out of HSU's reach early as they jumped out to a 12-6 lead. Henderson State tried to rally pulling within four, 12-8, but HU went on 6-2 run to take a 18-10 lead. The Lady Bisons closed the set on a 4-0 run to take the match.

Harding was led by senior middle blocker Alyssa Short who had 11 kills. Arnold finished with 10 kills. It was the 18th time this season Arnold has had 10 or more kills in a match. Junior setter Taryn Eubank, reigning GAC setter of the week, had 34 assists, 10 digs and four aces.

Henderson State (1-13, 0-6 GAC) was led by Sarah Williams who had eight kills. HSU had 10 blocks in the match.

The Lady Bisons will be back in action this weekend as they take part in the Missouri Southern Tournament in Joplin, Missouri. On Friday, HU will face Southwest Baptist at 12 p.m., and then face Emporia State at 4 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Lady Bisons will take on Northwest Missouri State at 11 a.m., and then close out the tournament against No. 4 Central Missouri at 1 p.m.
