WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Harding women's soccer team fell to Southwestern Oklahoma 2-0 on Sunday in the Great American Conference Tournament Championship. It was the Lady Bisons first trip to the GAC Touranment Finals.
Harding's Jenna Taylor, Hannah Hatcher and Melissa Minnich were named to the GAC All-Tournament team. It was the most players named to the all-tournament team since 2004 when HU had four.
Harding advanced to the championship game after defeating Ouachita Baptist 1-0 on Friday. It was HU's first GAC Tournament win.
The loss snapped a six game winning streak for the Lady Bisons as they end their season with an 8-9-1 overall record.
It was the second straight year Southwestern Oklahoma (13-4-2) has won the GAC Championship.
Harding held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the first half as they fended off 13 shots, four were on goal.
In the 55th minute Alexis Russell scored her first goal of the season when she hit a shot from the top of the left corner of the box to the top right corner of the net.
SWOSU put the game away when Russell found the head of Natalie Crosslin off a corner kick in the 69th minute. It was Crosslin's fourth goal of the season.
Harding sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Miller started and played 70 minutes between the posts as she had six saves. Junior goalkeeper Danielle Nonaka came on to finish the game and recorded a season-high six saves.
Southwestern Oklahoma took 30 shots in the game as 14 were on goal. Harding had two shots, one on goal.
