Volleyball Advances to GAC Tournament Championship Match with Win over OBU

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Senior outside hitter Mollie Arnold had 24 kills and a career-high 25 digs as the Harding volleyball team defeated Ouachita Baptist 3-2 on Friday in the Semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament at Summit Arena. The Lady Bisons will face Arkansas Tech for the third straight year in the championship match on Saturday at 2 p.m.

It was Harding's 10th straight win as they improved to 27-7 overall.

Arnold's kills and Harding's 81 team kills set a new GAC Tournament record. The Lady Bisons' team kills ranked fourth most in Harding history.

Harding opened the match on a 9-1 run. Ouachita Baptist cut the Harding lead to 10-5 on 3-0 run on two Lady Bison attack errors. Harding went on a 9-3 run to take the first set 25-13 as they forced four Ouachita Baptist attack errors. Junior setter Taryn Eubank had 10 assists and six digs in the set.

The second set stayed close until Harding broke away on a 4-1 run to take an 18-14 lead on two kills by Arnold. The Lady Bisons didn't allow the Tigers to get any closer than three the rest of the set as Harding won 25-18. Arnold had seven kills in the set.

Ouachita Baptist started its' comeback in the third set as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Harding quickly cut the lead to one (10-9) as they forced two Tiger attack errors. Ouachita Baptist extended its lead to 13-10 on 3-1 run. Harding would eventually tie the set at 24 on a Tiger attack error. After an Ouachita Baptist point, Harding took a 26-25 lead on back-to-back kills. The Tigers went on a 3-0 run as they took the set 28-26. Harding had 10 hitting errors in the set.

Ouachita Baptist took a 7-2 lead in the fourth set. Harding battled back to cut the Tiger lead to one, 20-19, on a 4-0 run on two kills by Arnold. Ouachita Baptist finished the set on a 4-1 run to force a fifth and deciding set. Ouachita Baptist forced eight Harding hitting errors in the set.

Harding took a 10-5 lead in the fifth set on four kills by Arnold. Ouachita Baptist fought its way back into the match on a 5-2 run on three kills. The Lady Bisons took the next three points as back-to-back kills by Arnold gave Harding the victory.

Along with Arnold, Harding had three other players post a double-figure outing.  Junior middle blocker Liv Savage had a career-high 18 kills. Junior outside hitter Marindia Turner had 15 kills and senior middle blocker Alyssa Short had 12.

Eubank set a new Harding conference tournament record in assists with a career-high 57 and Harding's 69 team assists set a new school record in a conference tournament match.

Harding had 112 digs in the match which set a new high for Harding in a conference tournament match. Two other players along with Arnold finished with 20 or more digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Shelby Daniel had a career-high 22 and senior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland had 20. It was the first time in a GAC Tournament match three players has had 20 or more digs in a match.
