Averie Albright’s Goal Lifts Lady Bison Soccer over Southern Nazarene 3-2

SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer team battled back to win its fifth straight game on Sunday as they defeated Southern Nazarene 3-2 in Great American Conference action at the Stevens Soccer Complex. The Lady Bisons improved to 7-8-1 overall and 6-4-0 in the GAC.

Harding will be the No. 3 seed in the GAC Tournament next weekend. It's the first time HU has been the third seed in the conference tournament since 2006. The Lady Bisons will face Ouachita Baptist on Friday as the No. 1 seed Southwestern Oklahoma, located in Weatherford, Okla., will host the tournament.

Southern Nazarene (9-9-0, 5-5-0 GAC) got on the board first. In the 10th minute Alyssa Glitzke saved the ball from going out of bounds off the end line as her pass went to Bekah Stewart. Stewart chested the ball to Sherri Collins as she took a left footed shot to the back of the net.  It was her third goal this season.

Harding answered back in the 18th minute when freshman forward McKenna Smith found sophomore midfielder Audrey Adkison on a run up the middle. Adkison's shot found the lower right corner to tie the game.

The Crimson Storm took a 2-1 lead into halftime as they scored in the 30th minute off a corner kick by Collins that found the head of Kayla Miller for her second goal of the season.

In the 55th minute, freshman midfielder Averie Albright sent a throughball up the right side to Smith. Smith beat the keeper one-on-one and hit the lower right corner of the net to tie the game again.

Harding got the game winning goal in the 88th minute. Junior midfielder Anne Fitzgerald took a corner kick that went to the center of the box. Both teams scrambled for the ball but the ball eventually went to Albright as she kicked in her second career game-winning goal.

Southern Nazarene took 30 shots, 13 on goal.

Harding's sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Miller had seven saves in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Danielle Nonaka came on at half to make her first appearance of the season. She recorded four saves for HU.
