ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Harding women's golf team finished tied for fifth in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament on Wednesday at the St. Joseph Country Club. Sophomore Emily Plyler won a 1-hole playoff to advance to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament May 15-18 as an individual.
Plyler finished tied for sixth with a score of 239. She defeated Kendall Earp from Henderson State in the playoff.
Harding tied Great American Conference foe Henderson State with a 994 team score. It was one stroke behind Southwestern Oklahoma State who was the top finisher from the GAC.
Heading into the final round the Lady Bisons were in the sixth place. HU shot a final round 327 which was led by Plyler who finished with the Lady Bisons lowest score of the tournament at 78.
Senior Becca Godman tied for 14th place with a 245 score and senior So-Yun Kim tied for 20th with a 247. Sophomore Brittany Marquez finished in the 43rd spot with a 263 and junior Lani Schwartz finished 46th with a 276.
Central Oklahoma won the tournament with a 951 team score. Augustanta College (S.D.) placed second with a 964 team score and Northeastern State finished third with a 975. All three teams will advance to the NCAA Division II Championship on May 15-18 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Rebecka Surtevall from Arkansas Tech won the event with a 231. Ashlynn Hall from Southwestern Oklahoma State finished fifth with a 238. Both players will advance to the championship tournament as individuals.
