RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team went on a 4-0 run to close out the third set as they defeated Arkansas Tech 3-0 on Tuesday in Great American Conference action in front of 1,235 fans in Tucker Coliseum. The Lady Bisons improved to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in the GAC. HU is the first GAC team to 10 wins.
Harding was led by senior outside hitter Mollie Arnold who had 10 kills. Junior setter Taryn Eubank (reigning GAC Setter of the Week) captured a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs. It was her seventh double-double this season.
The HU defense was led by senior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland who had 19 digs. The Lady Bisons had seven blocks in the match, led by junior middle blocker Liv Savage who had four.
Harding forced Arkansas Tech to 26 hitting errors and five service errors. The Lady Bisons hit .241 and held the Golden Suns to hitting .120. It was the third-straight match Harding has hit over .200.
Arkansas Tech (7-4) was led by Sara Motsinger who had 11 kills. Morgan McKellar had 19 digs for ATU.
HU fell behind early in the first set 10-6 but went on a 4-0 run to tie the set at 10. ATU took another four point lead (19-15) but the Lady Bisons bounced back and pulled within one on a kill by Savage and two ATU attack errors. Harding scored eight of next eleven points to take the set 26-24.
Harding jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the second set. Harding didn't allow Arkansas Tech to get any closer than three the rest of the way as they won 25-18.
After trailing 7-2 to start the third set, Arkansas Tech went on a 4-0 run to pull within one. The Golden Suns then took a 10-9 lead on three straight kills, two by Motsinger. Harding found themselves down 14-13 midway through the set but put the match out of reach with a 6-0 run to lead 19-14. Harding scored six of the next nine points to take the set 25-17.
The Lady Bisons will continue GAC action on Thursday as they host Ouachita Baptist at 7 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House.
