SEARCY – The Harding Volleyball team defeated Ouachita Baptist 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-16) on Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons improved to 11-5 overall and 3-0 in the GAC.
Harding has now won 19 straight GAC matches dating back to the 2011 season. It was also the 18th straight match the Lady Bisons have won at home.
Ouachita Baptist took an 8-6 lead to open the first set. Harding rallied and took an 11-9 lead on two OBU attack errors and two HU kills by junior outside hitter Molly Howard. Ouachita Baptist stayed within two until a 6-1 run by the Lady Bisons that put the set out of reach for Ouachita Baptist. Junior middle blocker Liv Savage had six of her 10 kills in the first set.
Harding jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the second set and didn't look back as they took the set 25-14. Senior middle blocker Alyssa Short had three kills for HU during a 7-0 run.
The Lady Bisons found themselves down 5-3 in the third set but then senior outside hitter Mollie Arnold served for 12 straight points. HU had six kills in the run and forced four Ouachita Baptist hitting errors.
Harding was led by Arnold who had 12 kills. Junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland had 18 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Shelby Daniel had 10 digs.
Ouachita Baptist (8-2, 2-1 GAC) was led by junior setter Tara Wait who had a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs.
The Lady Bisons will get their first weekend off since the start of the season before hosting Lyon in non-conference action at the Rhodes field House 7 p.m., on Tuesday.
