ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team fell to Ouachita Baptist 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16) on Thursday in Great American Conference action in its final regular season match. The Lady Bisons fall to 19-8 overall and 10-4 in the GAC.
Harding won't know what seed they will be in the GAC Tournament held in Hot Springs, Ark., Nov. 13-15 until after Southeastern Oklahoma plays Northwestern Oklahoma on Friday.
The Lady Bisons were led by senior outside hitter Marindia Turner who captured a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Liv Savage had 13 kills and five blocks for Harding. Junior outside hitter Molly Howard had 11 kills and eight digs.
Sophomore setter Abigail Glosup captured her second straight double-double with 40 assists and 18 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Anna Leigh Cargile had 22 of Harding's 84 digs. Senior outside hitter Erica Heim had 17 digs for the Lady Bisons.
Ouachita Baptist who had already sealed a spot in the GAC Tournament finished its regular season with a 16-9 overall record and a 7-7 GAC record. The Tigers were led by Abby Pickett and Kori Bullard who each had 15 kills. Ashley Wake had a match-high 26 digs for Ouachita Baptist.
Harding jumped out of the gate with a 10-4 lead in the first set and didn't let Ouachita Baptist get any closer than five the rest of the way as the Lady Bisons took a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 set win.
The Tigers took a 9-6 lead in the second set until Harding went on a 4-0 run to lead 10-9 on three kills and a service ace. After exchanging points, Harding went on another 4-0 run to lead 15-13. Ouachita Baptist battled back to tie the set at 17 on a 4-2 run and then continued to build on their momentum as they closed the set on a 7-2 run.
The Lady Bisons took a 7-4 lead in the third set until Ouachita Baptist went on a 13-2 run on seven kills and four Harding attack errors. The teams exchanged points the rest of the way as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-18 win.
The fourth set was all Ouachita Baptist as the Tigers opened with a 13-5 lead. The Lady Bisons tried to mount a comeback with a 4-1 run but Ouachita Baptist went on an 8-5 run to take the set and the match.
