WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Harding volleyball team fell 3-2 (10-25,16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 19-17) to Tarleton State on Friday in a non-conference match played on Midwestern State's campus. The Lady Bisons fall to 4-2 on the season.
It was the second match this season, Harding has played five sets. The Lady Bisons defeated Lindenwood 3-2 to open the season.
Harding was led by senior middle blocker Liv Savage who had a season-high 14 kills and tied a season-high with six blocks. Senior outside hitter Marindia Turner captured a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Taryn Eubank also had a double-double with a season-high 52 assists and tied a season-high with 13 digs.
Tarleton State (7-1) was led by Kenya Alexander who had 13 kills and six blocks. Kaitlyn White captured a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs.
Harding took the first two sets with ease, winning 25-10 and 25-16.
Tarleton State jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third set before the Lady Bisons tied the set at 15 on a Turner kill. The Texanns then went on a 4-0 run to take a 20-16 lead. Harding tied the set again as the Lady Bisons forced three-straight attack errors but Tarleton State closed the set on a 4-1 run.
Harding trailed early in the fourth set (10-6) but battled back to tie the set a 12 on a kill by junior outside hitter Molly Howard. The Lady Bisons stayed close the next points and got within one (22-21) but Tarleton State had two kills and an ace to force a fifth set.
The fifth set was close throughout. The teams exchanged the opening points before the Texanns took a three point lead (10-7). Harding battled back to tie the set at 13 on a Turner kill. The teams tied four more times before Tarleton State got a kill and a service ace for the win.
Harding had a season-high 62 kills and a season-high 74 digs in the match.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action on Saturday as they take on No. 25 Angelo State at 3 p.m. and then face Midwestern State at 5:30 p.m.
