Lady Bison Volleyball Splits on Final Day of CBU Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Harding volleyball team fell in its first game on day two of the Christian Brothers Tournament to Drury 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 26-24) but rebounded to beat the host team Christian Brothers 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-23).

Harding improves to 3-1 on the season.

Match 1 – Harding vs. Drury (4-0)

Harding jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first set but Drury went on a 7-1 run to even the match at 14. With the set tied at 24, the Panthers had two straight kills to capture set one 26-24.

The second set was close throughout but a Harding service error and a kill by Drury gave the Panthers a 2-0 advantage.

Drury took a 19-13 lead in the third set. The Lady Bisons battled back on a 12-4 run to take a 24-23 lead. The Panthers got the next three points to take the set and the match.

Harding was led by senior outside hitter Marindia Turner who captured a double-double with 10 kills and a season-high 17 digs.

The Lady Bisons defense was led by Erica Heim who had a career-high 22 digs.

Drury was led by Sara Borneman who had 10 kills and seven digs.

Match 2 – Harding vs. Christian Brothers (1-3)

Harding took a 22-8 lead in the first set and didn't look back as they won the first set 25-16. Christian Brothers took an 11-5 lead in the second set before the Lady Bisons went on an 11-3 run to take a 20-19 lead. Harding had four straight kills as Heim and Turner each had two apiece as Harding won 25-22. Christian Brothers started the third set up 18-13 but Harding came from behind again and won the third set after going on a 12-5 run.

Heim led the Lady Bisons with 14 kills and 10 digs. It was her first career double-double. Turner also had 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Liv Savage had five blocks in the match.

Christian Brothers was led by Brittany Toney and Maggie Sorensen who each had nine kills.

The Lady Bisons will be back in action next Friday and Saturday as they participate in the Midwestern State Tournament held in Wichita Falls, Texas.
