SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer team dropped its second game of the season on Sunday as the Lady Bisons fell to Emporia State 4-2 at the Stevens Soccer Complex. Harding falls to 0-2 on the season.
Emporia State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Shannon Thomas found Perri Mulder on a through ball up the middle off a free kick.
The Hornets scored their second and third goals with 30 minutes left in the game.
Harding got on the board in the 76th minute when junior midfielder Audrey Adkison found fellow junior midfielder Ashley Sampson off a free kick. Sampson's shot hit off the crossbar and found the back of the net. It was her first career goal.
The Hornets scored their final goal three minutes later when Elizabeth High found the head of McKenzie Koch off a corner kick.
Harding found the back the net again in the 82nd minute when Sampson sent a cross from the right side off the field to the left side to find Adkison. Her shot found the upper left corner of the net from 20 yards out. It was her sixth career goal.
The Lady Bisons had two more scoring opportunities in the closing minutes of the game. Sophomore midfielder Averie Albright hit the post with four minutes left and a header by junior midfielder Melissa Minnich with three minutes left had to be cleared by an Emporia State defender.
Harding outshot Emporia State 18-13.
