Lady Bison Soccer Shuts Out Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Oklahoma – The Harding women's soccer team recorded its ninth shutout of the season on Saturday when it defeated Southern Nazarene 3-0 in Great American Conference action.

RECORDS

Harding improves to 10-2-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the GAC. Southern Nazarene falls to 6-9-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the GAC

GOALS

Harding 1, Southern Nazarene 0 – 29th minute – Audrey Adkison hit a throughball to the 18 for Bethany Sutherland to finish.

Harding 2, Southern Nazarene 0 – 64th minute – Melita Sutherland found the back of the net after a Bethany Sutherland cross.

Harding 3, Southern Nazarene 0 – 88th minute – Carley Stevens found Emma Chilton who found the upper right corner of the net.

TEAM STATS

The Lady Bisons have not lost in 12 games. Harding has won 10 times and has tied twice during its streak. The Lady Bisons have won their last five straight games and have shutout their opponent in the last three games.

The Lady Bisons seven conference wins is the most conference wins in school history. Harding has won six, four times.

With the win, the Lady Bisons are tied with Southwestern Oklahoma for first place in the GAC standings. The winner of the GAC regular season will host the conference tournament Nov. 6-8.

It was the first time since 2004 that Harding has won 10 games in a season.

The Lady Bisons took 16 shots in the game and had six shots on goal.

Southern Nazarene had nine shots, three were on goal.

INDIVIDUAL STATS

It was Bethany Sutherland's 14th goal of the season and her sixth game winning goal. Sutherland moved into sole possession of second place in Harding history in goals scored in a season. Kendyl Washburn (2004-07) and Chelsea Brandon (2008-11) each had 17 goals in a season.

Melita Sutherland's goal was her first this season and her second of her career. It was the first time Bethany Sutherland assisted her sister. Melita has assisted Bethany two times this season.

Emma Chilton's goal was her second of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Miller recorded her eighth shutout of the season which tied her with Cheryl Dovichak (2004-05) for the Harding record. Dovichak set the record in 2004. Miller surpassed the Harding career record in shutouts earlier this season. She has recorded 18 shutouts in her career.

Southern Nazarene was led by Kelsi Bussert who had five shots.
