Harding Football Falls 21-13 at Southwestern Oklahoma

WEATHERFORD, Okla.
– Southwestern Oklahoma became the first team to outrush Harding in more than four years and defeated the Bisons 21-13 on Saturday in Great American Conference play at ASAP Energy Field.

Southwestern took the eight-point lead with 11:34 left in the game. The Bulldogs took advantage of a Harding fumble at their own 27 and scored five plays later on a Marc Evans 14-yard pass to Carlos Smith.

Harding's next possession ended on an interception, but the Bison defense stopped the Bulldogs on fourth down at the Harding 28 after an 11-play drive that used up 6:28 on the clock.

Harding had a final possession with 2:19 left in the game and drove deep into Southwestern territory. Park Parish's pass to Vanard Placide at the goalline fell incomplete on second down. Two plays later another incompletion ended Harding's hopes.

Records
Harding fell to 6-3 overall and in the GAC. Southwestern Oklahoma improved to 6-3 overall and finished their home schedule 5-0 at ASAP Energy Field.

Harding is 19-3 against Oklahoma schools during its four-plus seasons in the GAC. Two of the losses have come to Southwestern Oklahoma in games played in Weatherford.

Team Stats
Southwestern Oklahoma rushed for 190 yards to Harding's 171. It was the first time an opponent had more rushing yards than Harding since Oct. 29, 2011, a 31-27 loss to Ouachita Baptist.

Harding's last game with fewer than 200 rushing yards came against Henderson State on Oct. 13, 2012.

Southwestern had 349 total yards to Harding's 243 yards.

The Bisons struggled on third down, converting only 2-of-13.

Individual Stats
Park Parish scored Harding's lone touchdown on its first drive of the game. It was Parish's school-record 18th rushing touchdown, breaking Alan Dixon's 43-year-old school record.

Kenneth Martey led Southwestern Oklahoma with 106 rushing yards on 25 carries. He was the first Harding opponent to rush for more than 100 yards this season.

Harding kicker Tristan Parsley connected on field goals of 36 and 25 yards.

Harding plays its final home game of the season next Saturday at 2 p.m. against Northwestern Oklahoma.
