MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team fell at Arkansas-Monticello 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-23) on Thursday in Great American Conference action.
RECORDS
Harding improves to 15-15 overall and 9-7 in the GAC. Arkansas-Monticello improves to 12-17 overall and 3-13 in the GAC.
SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS
The first set stayed close until Arkansas-Monticello went on a 7-0 run to lead 18-12. The Lady Bisons couldn't overcome the deficit as the Cotton Blossoms won 25-18. Harding was held to only nine kills in the set and hit .107. Freshman middle blocker Zoe Hardin had four of her seven kills in the set.
SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Harding took a 14-8 lead in the second set. Arkansas-Monticello battled back to tie the set at 15 on a 7-1 run. With the set tied at 20, the Cotton Blossoms scored five of the next six points to win the set 25-21.
SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS
Harding took a 6-4 lead early in the third set. It continued to hold onto its lead midway through the set. With the Lady Bisons leading 23-19, Arkansas-Monticello went on a 6-0 run to win the set 25-23. Each team had 15 kills in the set. Freshman outside hitter Emily Clayton led Harding with five kills.
TEAM STATS
Harding sealed a spot in the GAC Tournament last week and the Lady Bisons have been battling for seeding ever since. Harding will be the No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 seed Southern Arkansas in the upcoming tournament held in Hot Springs, Arkansas on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Arkansas Tech sits atop the GAC standings and will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
Harding had 37 kills and hit .183 in the match. The Lady Bisons had an 18 attack errors.
Arkansas-Monticello had 41 kills with 16 attack errors and hit .198. The Cotton Blossoms also had seven service aces.
INDIVIDUAL STATS
Harding was led by senior outside hitter Molly Howard who had nine kills and 10 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Anna Leigh Cargile led the defense with 14 digs.
Arkansas-Monticello was led by Sydni Schulz who captured a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Carolina Gasparini had 10 kills and Kaila Kikugawa led the defense with 11 digs.
