Lady Bison Softball Drops Doubleheader to East Central

EDMOND, Okla. – The Harding softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader to East Central on Saturday in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons fell 11-5 and 6-4. Due to weather, the games were moved to the home field of Oklahoma Christian in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Harding falls to 4-12 overall and 1-5 in the GAC. East Central improves to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the GAC.

GAME ONE

Harding took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Marley Edwards grounded out to the second baseman which allowed Courtney Derrick to score.

East Central took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second on a triple and a single. Harding then scored two in the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.

The Tigers scored nine runs on eight hits and an error to take an 11-5 lead. The inning was highlighted by a bases loaded triple by Lacey Williams Wenholm and a two run homer by Jordynn VanPelt.

Kimmy Hendricks and Mackenzie Jones both had two hits in the game for Harding.

Lacey Paulk got the win for East Central. She pitched 4 2-3 innings, gave up four hits and struck out three. Amber Rollins got the loss for Harding in 5 2-3 innings pitched.

GAME TWO

Harding jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a double by Carolyn Clayton that drove in Kimmy Hendricks and a single by Amanda Berdon that drove in Clayton.

East Central tied the game in the bottom of the second on two runs and two hits. The Tigers took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third on a two run homer by Samantha McGraw.

The Lady Bisons tied the game at four in the top of the fourth. Amanda Berdon singled in Mackenzie Jones and then came around to score when Courtney Derrick grounded out to the second baseman.

East Central scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back singles.

The Tigers scored their last run in the bottom of the sixth on three hits.

Sydney Dow went the distance for East Central to earn the win. She pitched seven innings and struck out eight. Danielle Hubbard got the loss for Harding in 5 1-3 innings pitched.

The two teams will wrap up their series on Sunday back at the home of East Central in Ada, Oklahoma First pitch is scheduled for noon.
