ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding softball team swept Ouachita Baptist 6-2 and 7-2 on Sunday in Great American Conference action. Sophomore Kimmy Hendricks extended her reach base streak to 21 games which set a new school record. Hendricks reached base in both games and broke Carolyn Clayton's record of 19 set last season.
After the game one win, Harding sealed a spot in the GAC Tournament held April 30-May 2 in Bentonville, Arkansas. With the conference bye next weekend, the Lady Bisons will have to wait to see what seed they will be.
Harding improves to 20-24 overall and 14-14 in the GAC. Ouachita Baptist falls to 10-30 overall and 6-23 in the GAC.
GAME ONE
Trailing 1-0, Harding scored two runs in the third, one in the fourth and three in the sixth to defeat Ouachita Baptist 6-2 to seal its spot in the GAC Tournament.
In the third inning Harding scored two runs on three hits and one error. Kinsey Beck and Mackenzie Jones both knocked in a run for Harding.
The sixth inning was highlighted by a two home runs for the Lady Bisons. Emily Jones hit a two-run home run and then the next batter Kinsey Beck hit a solo home run to left field. It was the second home run of the season for each player.
Amber Rollins got the win for Harding to improve her record to 13-11. She went the distance and gave up seven hits, two runs and struck out three. Sophomore Macy Nantz (4-13) got the loss for Ouachita Baptist.
The Lady Bisons had 10 hits in the game. Beck, Brookelynn Moon and Mackenzie Jones each had two hits. Beck finished with three RBIs.
GAME TWO
After a one hour and 30 minute rain delay and Harding leading 5-2, the Lady Bisons scored two more runs to defeat Ouachita Baptist 7-2.
Harding scored a run in the first two innings, two runs in the third and one in the fifth. The Lady Bisons had 11 hits in the game and forced Ouachita Baptist to three errors.
Sophomore Marley Edwards went 3-for-4 in the game with a double and two runs scored. Mackenzie Jones and Brookelynn Moon both had two hits.
Sophomore Danielle Hubbard got the win for Harding to improve her record to 7-11. Hubbard threw a complete game. She gave up six hits and two runs. Freshman Jade Sones (1-9) got the loss for Ouachita Baptist.
The two teams will wrap up their series with a doubleheader on Monday starting at 1 p.m.
