CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Harding softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Delta State on Tuesday. The Lady Bisons won the first game 6-4 but dropped the second game 4-1.
Harding moves to 22-26 overall and Delta State moves to 25-20.
GAME ONE
Trailing 3-2 after the second inning, Harding scored two runs in the third and two in the sixth to seal a 6-4 win over Delta State.
Mackenzie Jones and Marley Edwards each drove in two runs for Harding. Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Edwards went 2-for-4.
Delta State scored three runs in the second on three hits and a Harding error. Memrie Corley scored two of the runs when she singled up the middle.
Harding had 12 hits in the game and it is the third straight game the Lady Bisons have recorded 10 or more hits.
Senior Amber Rollins improved her record to 14-12 with the win. She threw the complete game as she only gave up one earned run. Taylor Johnson (9-6) got the loss of Delta State.
GAME TWO
Delta State scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and Harding couldn't catch up as the Lady Statesmen won 4-1.
The Lady Bisons run came in the second inning when Carolyn Clayton hit her team-leading seventh home run to center field.
Delta State also scored a run in the second and one run in the fifth. The Lady Statesmen had six hits in the game.
Delta State held Harding to only two hits.
Taylor Tucker (3-4) got the win for Delta State. She threw the complete game as she gave up one earned run and struck out three. Danielle Hubbard (8-12) got the loss for Harding in 1 1/3 innings of work. Taylor Friend pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief for Harding. She only allowed one run and faced 17 batters.
Harding will be back in action on Thursday when they play its final home games of the season when they host Texas A&M-Commerce in a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m., at the Harding Softball Field.
