HU Softball Sweeps Southwestern Oklahoma in Friday Doubleheader

Lady Bison Softball Sweeps Southwestern Oklahoma on Friday

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Harding softball team swept Southwestern Oklahoma winning 10-2 and 12-6 on Friday in Great American Conference action. The two teams will wrap up their four-game series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.

Harding improved to 14-20 overall and 8-10 in the GAC. Southwestern Oklahoma dropped to 5-25 overall and 1-17 in the GAC.

GAME ONE

Harding set a school record with 10 walks, and the Lady Bisons won 10-2 in a mercy-rule-shortened five innings.

Harding got on the board in the top of the first, scoring three runs. With the bases loaded and two outs, Southwestern Oklahoma walked in two runs. Kinsey Beck drove the Lady Bisons' other run in when she reached on a fielding error.

The Bulldogs pulled within one in the second inning by scoring two runs on three hits.

Harding blew the game open with five runs on three hits and two errors in the fourth inning. Courtney Derrick and Brookleynn Moon both drove in runs. With the bases loaded, Amanda Berdon was hit by a pitch that scored the third run. After a Southwestern Oklahoma pitching change, Marley Edwards was walked to score the fourth run. Beck drove in her second run of the game with a ground ball to shortstop.

With a runner at second and no outs in the fifth, Moon hit her eighth double and picked up her second RBI of the game. Two batters later, Mackenzie Jones hit a single to the pitcher that scored Moon from third.

Derrick stole a career-high three bases in the game to move her season total to 21.

Amber Rollins picked up her ninth win of the season. She pitched the complete game and gave up only three hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts. Rileigh Ricken (3-10) got the loss for Southwestern Oklahoma.

GAME TWO

Harding scored in every inning but the fifth in its 12-6 victory in game two.

The Lady Bisons trailed 5-2 after the first inning but scored nine consecutive runs to take an 11-5 lead after the top of the sixth.

Every hitter in the starting lineup had at least one hit in Harding's 14-hit onslaught. Jones was 3 for 5 with an RBI, and Moon, Kimmy Hendricks and Carolyn Clayton had two hits each.

Harding walked nine times against three Southwestern Oklahoma pitchers. Beck walked twice and added a double and scored all three times.

Danielle Hubbard got the win for Harding to improve her record to 5-10. It was her fifth complete game this season. Molly Vivo (1-8) got the loss for Southwestern Oklahoma.

Hubbard allowed five runs on four hits in the first but settled in and gave up only one run on four hits the rest of the way.

Southwestern committed six errors that led to five unearned runs in the second game.
