Lady Bison Volleyball Falls on Day One of Lindenwood Tournament

ST. JOSEPH, Missouri – The Harding volleyball team fell to Arkansas-Fort Smith 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-12) and Lindenwood 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 18-25, 25-14) on Friday on the first day of the Lindenwood Tournament.

ARKANSAS-FORT SMITH MATCH RECAP

Arkansas-Fort Smith took a 1-0 lead in the match after taking the first set 25-20. Harding trailed for most of the second set until the Lady Bisons finished with a 10-3 run to win 25-21. In the third set, the Lady Lions took 15-11 lead and held on to win 25-20. Harding battled back after trailing for the first half of the fourth set and closed the set on a 6-3 run to force a deciding set with a 25-21 victory. The teams battled in the fifth set as the score stayed close but Arkansas-Fort Smith scored the last four points to take the set 15-12.

HU-UAFS TEAM STATS

Harding had four players in double-figure kills for the first time this season.

The Lady Bisons had 26 errors in the match but forced Arkansas-Fort Smith to 28.

Harding had a season-high 14 team blocks.

Arkansas-Fort Smith had two players with 20 or more digs as the team finished with 86 digs.

HU-UAFS INDIVIDUAL STATS

Harding was led by senior outside hitter Molly Howard who had 16 kills. She also captured a double-double adding 15 digs. Freshman middle blocker Zoe Hardin and sophomore outside hitter Taylor Mounts each had 13 kills. Junior middle blocker Sara Smith had 10 kills and tied a career-high with six blocks.

Junior setter Abigail Glosup had 49 assists for the Lady Bisons and was one dig from getting a double-double.

Arkansas-Fort Smith was led by Kennedi Coleman who had 21 kills and 12 digs. Emily Tripp led the defense with 24 digs and Macy Ayulo had 22 digs.

LINDENWOOD MATCH RECAP

With Lindenwood up 18-17 in the first set, the Lady Lions went on a 7-1 run to take the set 25-18. Lindenwood continued its momentum into the second as set as it jumped out to a 6-1 lead until Harding tied the set at nine on an 8-3 run. The set stayed close until the Lady Lions scored three straight points to win 25-21. Trailing 10-9 in the third set, Harding went on a 10-2 run to lead 20-12. Lindenwood pulled within three on a 5-0 run but the Lady Bisons closed the set on a 5-1 run on five kills to win 25-18. The Lady Lions had 19 kills in the fourth set to win 25-14.

HU-LU TEAM STATS

Harding had 38 kills in the match and had one player in double-figure kills. The Lady Bisons had a season-low 14 attack errors and hit .200 in the match.

Lindenwood had four players with 11 or more kills as Harding forced 24 Lady Lions attack errors.

HU-LU INDIVIDUAL STATS

Zoe Hardin led the Lady Bisons with 10 kills and five blocks. Junior defensive specialized Anna Leigh Cargile led the Harding defense with 11 digs.

Lindenwood was led by Shannon Doyle who had 12 kills and 10 digs.
