Softball Sweeps Southern Nazarene on Sunday

BETHANY, Okla. – The Harding softball team swept Southern Nazarene winning 3-0 and 3-2 on Sunday in Great American Conference action. The series between the two teams was scheduled to be played in Searcy but due to weather the series was moved to Southern Nazarene. Since the games were supposed to be Harding's home games, the Lady Bisons will be the home team in the series.


Harding improves to 18-8 overall and 10-4 in the GAC. Southern Nazarene falls to 7-15 overall and 2-12 in the GAC.
 
Game One Key Innings (Harding 3, Southern Nazarene 0)

-         After two scoreless innings, Harding scored its first run in the bottom of the third when Courtney Derrick singled to left field that drove in Brookelynn Moon.

-         The Lady Bisons got another run in the fourth when Kinsey Beck hit a sacrifice bunt and after a throwing error Kimmy Hendricks scored.

-         Harding scored its final run in the sixth on three hits after Kinsey Beck hit a double to center field that scored Peyton Mills.

 
Game One Key Statistics

-         Each team had five hits in the game.

-         Harding was led by Kimmy Hendricks who had two hits and a run scored. Brookelynn Moon did not get a hit in the game as her 16 game hitting streak came to an end.

-         Five different players had a hit for Southern Nazarene.

-         Hannah Johnson got the win for Harding improving her record to 9-1 on the season. She threw her fifth complete game and struck out two batters.

-         Kayla Wyatt received the loss and falls to 4-6 on the season. She threw the complete game and gave up three earned runs and stuck out seven.

 
Game Two Key Innings (Harding 3, Southern Nazarene 2)

-         Harding got on the board in the third inning when Peyton Mills hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Morgan Acosta from third.

-         The Lady Bisons tacked on two more runs in the sixth when Kinsey Beck doubled in two runs with two outs. It was the fourth time this season she has had a multiple RBI game.

-         Southern Nazarene made things interesting in the top of the seventh when Sam Smith hit a two-run home run to left center with two outs. Harding got the win after it got the next batter to line out.

 
Game Two Key Statistics

-         Harding had seven hits in the game, led by Courtney Derrick and Kinsey Beck who each had two.

-         Southern Nazarene had eight hits, led by Hannah LeBeau who went 2-for-3.

-         Harding starting pitcher Ashley Smith got the win to improve to 4-3 on the season. She pitched 4 1/3 innings and didn't give up a run. Kelly Beth Ernest pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief and picked up her fourth save of the season.

-         Katelyn Brown got the loss for Southern Nazarene falling to 3-7 on the season. She threw a complete game, gave up seven hits, three unearned runs and struck out two.

-         The two teams will wrap up its series on Monday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
