Softball Splits with SOSU on Sunday; Wins Series 3-1

DURANT, Okla. – The Harding softball team split with Southeastern Oklahoma on Sunday in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons won the first game 10-1 but dropped the second game 8-7. After sweeping the Savage Storm on Saturday, Harding wins the series 3-1


Harding moves to 22-10 overall and 14-6 in the GAC. Southeastern Oklahoma moves to 19-9 overall and 15-3 in the GAC.
 
Game One Key Innings (Harding 10, Southeastern Oklahoma 1)

-         After a scoreless first inning, Harding scored three runs on four hits and a Southeastern Oklahoma error in the second inning. Morgan Acosta got the only RBI for the Lady Bisons in the inning after doubling down the left field line.

-         The Savage Storm got on the board and scored their only run in the third inning on a Jessica Simmons single.

-         Harding added four more runs in the fifth on RBIs by Kinsey Beck, Brookelynn Moon and Courtney Derrick.

-         The Lady Bisons made it 10-1 game in the seventh inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Kimmy Hendricks doubled in two runs and Peyton Mills singled up the middle to score Courtney Derrick from second.

 
Game One Key Statistics

-         Harding had 18 hits in the game which is the second most by the Lady Bisons this season.

-         Harding was led by Alexus Lawellin and Morgan Acosta who each had three hits. Four other Lady Bisons had two hits in the game.

-         It was only the third time this season Harding didn't have stolen base in the game.

-         Hannah Johnson picked up her 11th win of the season and is only the fourth player in Harding history to do so. She threw her seventh complete game and gave up one earned run and struck out two.

-         Emily Cudd, Southeastern Oklahoma's starter, got the loss to fall to 9-4 on the season. She gave up 11 hits and four earned runs.

 
Game Two Key Innings (Southeastern Oklahoma 8, Harding 7)

-         With runners at first and third, Harding scored first in the top of the first inning off a throwing error by Southeastern Oklahoma.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma answered back with a run in the bottom of the first.

-         The Savage Storm scored a run in the second and third innings and then added three in the fourth inning led by Destiny Riddle who doubled in two runs.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma made it a 7-1 game in the sixth inning after Conner Harmon hit a home run down the left field line.

-         Harding came back and tied the game in the top of the seven after scoring six runs on three home runs. Kimmy Hendricks hit a two-run home run, Mackenzie Jones hit a solo shot and then Amanda Berdon tied the game with a three-run home run.

-         With two outs and a runner at second, Southeastern Oklahoma got the winning run after Keeshia Thompson singled to right center field.

 
Game Two Key Statistics

-         Harding had 12 hits in the game, the most in a loss this season.

-         Brookelynn Moon went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Lady Bisons. Alexus Lawellin and Mackenzie Jones also had two hits in the game.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma had 10 hits in the game, led by Laramie Beal who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

-         Jessica Seay got the win for Southeastern Oklahoma to improve to 10-3 on the season. She was relieved by Destiny Riddle in the seventh but entered back in the game to get the last three Harding outs. Seay gave up 10 hits, two earned runs and struck out six.


Up Next

-         Harding will head home to play its first GAC series at home in over three weeks next weekend. The Lady Bisons will host East Central in a four-game series starting Friday at 2 p.m., at the Harding Softball Field.
