Southern Arkansas Defeats Harding Softball for GAC Tournament Championship

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas defeated Harding 7-0 in the Great American Conference Tournament Championship game on Sunday. The Lady Bisons will find out their NCAA Division II Tournament postseason fate on Monday at 9 a.m., Central Time on NCAA.com.

Hannah Johnson, Alexus Lawellin and Kimmy Hendricks were named to the GAC All-Tournament team.

No. 4 seed Harding falls to 37-24 overall and No. 2 seed Southern Arkansas improves to 46-9.


Key Innings

-         Southern Arkansas opened the game with a three-run home run by Maddie Dow in the bottom of the first.

-         With two outs, Harding got the bases loaded in the top of the third but Southern Arkansas got out of the inning picking up a strikeout.

-         The Lady Muleriders tacked on two more runs in the third off of one hit. Maddie Dow was walked with the bases loaded and Ashton Atwell hit a single to right to score the second run.

-         Southern Arkansas made it a 7-0 game in the fifth scoring two runs on two hits and a Harding error. Atwell doubled in a run and then came around to score off a wild pitch for the Lady Muleriders.

Key Statistics

-         Harding was held to four hits in the game and had two errors.

-         Southern Arkansas had eight hits and was led by Maddie Dow who went 1-for-2 with a run scored and four RBIs.

-         Peyton Jenkins got the win for the Lady Muleriders and improves to 2-1 on the season.

-         Harding starter Hannah Johnson received the loss after pitching one inning. She falls to 21-10 on the season.
