Arkadelphia, Ark. – Junior forward Carley Stevens found the back of the net in the 53rd minute to give the Harding women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Emporia State in non-conference action in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/Great American Conference Challenge hosted by Ouachita Baptist on Sunday.
RECORDS
Harding improves to 1-1-0 on the season and Emporia State falls to 0-1-1.
GOALS
Harding 1, Emporia State 0 – 53th minute – Several Lady Bisons crashed the goal off the rebound but Carley Stevens was the first one there to score for Harding. Asia Hollingsworth picked up the assist after her shot hit off the crossbar and away from the goalkeeper.
TEAM STATS
It was Harding's first win against Emporia State. The Hornets still lead the overall series 2-1.
Each team took 14 shots and four were on goal.
Emporia State took seven shots and four were on goal.
INDIVIDUAL STATS
It was Carley Stevens' ninth goal in her career and the first of the season. Her goal marked the 600th goal in program history.
Emporia State could have taken the lead in the 14th minute on a penalty kick but Harding's goalkeeper Jessica Woessner came up with the save. It was the Lady Bisons first penalty kick save since 2010.
The Hornets had a chance to tie the game in the 90th minute. With the goalkeeper out, Ashlynn Summar hit a shot from 35-yards out that was headed out by Harding's Hannah Wilhelm.
