SEARCY – The 11th-ranked Harding softball team captured a doubleheader sweep of Southern Nazarene on Friday in Great American Conference action. Harding scored 30 runs on the day as it won 10-6 and 20-3.
Harding improved its win streak to 19 straight dating back to Feb. 24.
The Lady Bisons improve to 27-3 on the season and 17-1 in the GAC. Southern Nazarene falls to 8-22 overall and 4-14 in the GAC.
Game One Key Innings (#11 Harding 10, Southern Nazarene 6)
- Southern Nazarene got on the board first in the second inning, scoring a run when Kriston Shumaker hit an infield single. It was the first run Harding has given up in 38 innings.
- Harding tied the game in the third when Lindsey Duncan hit a solo home run to right field. It was her first collegiate home run.
- The Crimson Storm answered back with a run in the third when Amy Reynolds singled in Kai Sanchez from third.
- In the fourth inning, Harding scored three runs on two hits. Peyton Mills led off the inning with a solo home run to center field. It was her second of the year. With runners on second and third, Madi Trump singled both of the runners in to make it a 4-2 game.
- Southern Nazarene scored a run in the fourth to pull within one, 4-3.
- Harding scored four runs on two hits in the fifth inning, highlighted by an Autumn Humes grand slam. It was her fifth home run and her second grand slam on the season.
- The Crimson Storm made it an 8-5 game in the fifth when they scored two runs on one hit. Kriston Shumaker and Kyndall Freer each had a RBI in the inning.
- Harding added its final two runs in the sixth when Autumn Humes had a bases clearing double.
- Amy Reynolds knocked in the last run for Southern Nazarene in the sixth.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had nine hits with Peyton Mills and Autumn Humes each going 2-for-3.
- Southern Nazarene had eight hits led by Mahina Sauer who went 2-for-3.
- Autumn Humes' six RBIs was the second time a Harding player has had as many. Mackenzie Jones had six last season against Ouachita.
- Hannah Johnson got the win for Harding and improved to 14-1 on the season. She pitched four innings, gave up six hits and four earned runs. Amanda Berry picked up her first save of the season, pitching three innings, gave up two hits and had one strikeout.
- Katelyn Brown received the loss and falls to 6-9 on the season. She gave up 10 earned runs and struck out nine.
Game Two Key Innings (#11 Harding 20, Southern Nazarene 3)
- Southern Nazarene got on the board first in the second when Hannah LeBeau hit a double to right center that scored Sam Smith.
- Harding tied the game in the third when Peyton Mills scored as a result of a fielding error.
- The Lady Bisons took an 8-1 lead in the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits. Peyton Mills highlighted the inning when she knocked in two runs when she singled up the middle.
- Harding added another run in the fifth when Autumn Humes singled up the middle.
- Southern Nazarene scored two more in the fifth on three hits.
- The Lady Bisons scored 10 runs on seven hits in the sixth inning led by Brookelynn Moon's grand slam. It was her first home run of the season. Alexus Lawellin and Peyton Mills each added two RBIs for Harding. Amanda Berdon also homered in the inning. It was her fifth of the season.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Harding's 20 runs set a new school record for the most runs in a game. The previous high was 18 set against Christian Brothers in 2015.
- The Lady Bisons also set a new school record for the most RBIs in a game with 19. Harding had 16 twice, the last being against Ouachita last season.
- Harding had 17 hits, the third most in school history.
- Peyton Mills went 4-for-5 in the game for Harding. She also had five RBIs and three runs scored.
- Autumn Humes picked up the win for Harding to improve to 12-1 on the season. She pitched six innings, gave up six hits, three earned runs and struck out four.
- Brooke Tate received the loss for Southern Nazarene and falls to 0-6 on the season.
